Vacation in Spain (aka Great Britain), Gibraltar

On our way along the southern coast of Spain, we decided to stop by the famous Gibraltar, which is really under British rule. (So technically, we went to England on this trip too!) It was a very strange, but worthwhile experience. This was the view as we drove to the border check:

Gibraltar was filled with old forts and military lookouts:

We stopped quite a few times...that's Spain behind Sophie and me.

And that's Africa in the distance. We had wanted to take a side trip to Morocco too, but we decided to wait until Sophie was a little older before doing that. We settled for just seeing Africa from the tip of Gibraltar.

This is one of the tips of the area...this is a view with the water to our backs.

Strangely, there was an old shipwreck at this viewing point that had never been cleaned up.

Some locals fishing:

These are the cables that take the cable car up to the top of the "rock." Unfortunately, by the time we figured out how to get there, the cable car had been closed down for the day due to strong winds.

Some views as we left Gibraltar:

Driving through the Gibraltar airport to get back to Spain...we literally had to drive on the runway:

These flags are flown at the border checkpoint (EU, British, and Gibraltar).

The view of the Rock of Gibraltar as we left:

And finally, the awesome "Andalucia Diner" where we ate lunch--it had a menu full of "traditional" egg/meat dishes you would find at an American diner, but with an Andalusian twist. It was quite good.
