A couple of weeks ago, we went on a day trip with the students to Heidelberg and Baden-Baden (both in Germany). I'll post the pictures of Heidelberg today and Baden-Baden tomorrow.
Heidelberg is an old university town, and the University of Heidelberg was founded in the 14th century. There is a very old castle that is mostly in ruins due to war on the hill above the city.
Here is a view of part of the city center:

Some views of the castle:

This is a very dark picture, but the best one we have, of one of the largest wooden wine barrels in the world. There's actually a large platform on the top where people can climb to check things out.

A view of Heidelberg from the castle:

Sophie finagled a scarf from one of the students and wore it most of the time at the castle:

A Sophie-sized door:

And Sophie put her foot into Heidelberg's traditional "step here and you'll be happy in your life and return to the city" footprint. (It seems to me that many small towns have something like this, like Freiburg and their water running through the town.) This one actually has a funny story liked to it, though. Apparently, a knight was in love and decided to kill himself because it went unrequited. He jumped off the top of the castle, and landed where this footprint is. Instead of crumpling up and dying, he bounced right down the hill into the river (and survived). I'm not sure how true this is, but it's quite a creative story at least!
