Last Saturday, we decided we needed a relaxing day out, and Ian suggested that we take a day trip to Konstanz. At first I wasn't so sure since it was going to be a three-hour (!) train ride, but he convinced me to go. And I am sure glad he did! We were exhausted when we got home at almost midnight, but we all had a great time.
We packed a picnic lunch and headed straight for a park with a beach on Lake Konstanz:

Sophie loves picnics, so we spread out our blanket under the trees and enjoyed ourselves after the long, and very crowded due to a rock festival, train ride.

We attempted to get Sophie to take a nap, but she just fidgeted until we let her get up and go swimming.

The lake was beautiful, but chilly. It wasn't too bad once you got in, but Sophie was a little scared of the vastness of it and the fact that she couldn't touch the ground. We brought along a little blow-up innertube shaped like an alligator, and although she loved it, she didn't want to use it in the lake. We ended up staying in the "big lake" (as Sophie called it) for only about 15 minutes, which was unfortunate for Ian and I, but luckily for Sophie, the park had a small children's pool, aptly named "the small lake" by Sophie. We spent most of the afternoon there.

The jetty was a little slippery, and Sophie fell as we were taking pictures. She laughed it off, though, and wasn't hurt.

Here Sophie is enjoying watching the boats on the lake:

The students arrive tomorrow, so I'll be surprised if I'm able to post again then, but I'll post pictures of our time at the "little lake" as soon as I can.
And, by the way, I received my letter yesterday saying that my carte de sejour (greencard) has been approved. Woohoo!

I know exactly where those pictures were taken! I spent a week in Konstanz when I was in high school. It's a great place. There's a statue of bunny fish near the middle of town that I loved. Didn't love the spider infestation in our hotel room though. Glad you guys are having fun. I arrive in Europe on Sunday morning.
