Vacation in Spain, Sevilla

Sorry for the absence...we went to Stockholm for part of spring break (and my birthday), and since I didn't think we would have internet access (which we ended up having afterall), I didn't bring my computer with all of our pictures on it. Anyways, I need to get going on this because it's almost April, and I haven't even posted pics through January yet!

So, last time I posted, we were headed to Sevilla, which was a beautiful city, but unfortunately, we landed there during their Three Kings celebration, so everything was closed. It was probably the best city to be stuck in, though, since it was a beautiful city to walk around in. And walk we did.

An entrance to the cathedral:

A bar on a corner near our hotel (right in the heart of the old town of Sevilla--where we got almost disastrously lost in the car. Never, never, never drive in the old town here! The streets are too narrow for cars and because of the little one-way alleys, it's really impossible to navigate. We only made it out thanks to Ian's super-human navigating and my awesome ability to not scrape the side of the car every time we had to turn!)

Another beautiful corner building:

A series of colorful apartment buildings:

This top of a church reminded me of those sandcastles you can make by letting wet sand drip through your hand...

We bought Sophie a little Spanish fan...and she loved her abanico!

But not as much as chasing pigeons! (I think she's going to be disappointed when she gets back to Danville and finds that there aren't too many pigeons...)

Playing tag with Daddy:

A view of the cathedral and the famous Sevilla oranges:

Sophie posing in a courtyard:

And a family portrait:

Taking a break...

And what trip to Sevilla would be complete without flamenco shoes? This is a kids' shoe store, and Sophie is lucky that they weren't open!

Part of the medieval wall:

The alley with the medieval wall and apartments:

The "Judería," or Jewish part of the city (in the past):

On a walk out of the old town:

We walked out to the area where the "Olympic Stadium" is. Sevilla has never hosted the Olympics...

We walked by a little fair with a modern-day carousel. Sophie insisted on riding the motorcycle...her grandparents would be so proud!

I think that not only Sophie should have Flamenco shoes, but, Mindy, you should have a pair in every color!! And, yes, Grandma & Grandpa are very proud that she chose the motorcycle over the cars!!
