Skipping off to Switzerland--Part II

After a quick lunch in the cafeteria of a department store (which sounds weird, but it was obviously the place to go with children...it was full of them and relatively inexpensive), we headed off to a park so that Sophie could nap. The park ended up having a flea market throughout, but there was enough greenspace to stretch out. And Sophie fell asleep to the lulling sounds of some band featuring a man playing the drums with only one shortened arm and another man playing a Nintendo Gameboy hooked up to an amp. It was as weird as it sounds.

Anyways, after Sophie woke up, we headed off to the Spalentor, a surviving gate from the fortifications in 1400.

The tower supporters were having a sort of reception in celebrations of "Tower Days," which included free water, prosecco, beer, and crackers for all. I couldn't resist a glass of prosecco for myself, and Sophie begged us for some "bubbly water."

We then headed over to the Rhine, which runs right through the middle of the city.

A view of the cathedral across the river:

I'll write more tomorrow about our exciting trip back to the other side of the river!
