Vacation in Spain, Segovia

Our last stop in Spain before returning to Madrid was Segovia, a city I'd visited more than once in the past, but still amazes me. I knew that Ian would like it for its history, which includes a gigantic Roman aqueduct. But on the way to Segovia, we had a beautiful drive. The countryside was white from the snow the days before...

We passed by the town of Ávila, known mostly for being the home of St. Teresa of Ávila, and stopped to take some pictures and eat lunch. The still-standing fortress dates back to 1090.

We stopped at a little rustic restaurant near the highway.

Ian ordered some sort of fried pork riblets with garlic...

And I had a Spanish version of chile rellenos--red peppers stuffed with some sort of cheese mixture and possibly some sort of ground meat floating in a yummy sauce.

We finally arrived in Segovia after getting lost a couple of times, only to find that our beautiful hotel was located less than a block from the cathedral!

We unpacked the car and then immediately set out on a walk to explore the city. The main destination? The Roman aqueduct from all angles:

That's Ian and Sophie in the distance:

A view from the start of the acqueduct in the old city:

Sophie begged to eat snow the entire time!

After wandering the city, we stopped by a bar to have some hot chocolate:

The next day, we stopped to take a picture from one of the entrances into the city:

We spent our 5th anniversary here, but Ian came down with the flu that all of us eventually got, so we didn't really celebrate until later...that's a later post!
