We just got back from Paris (where we had a great time), and it's suddenly changed from summer to full-on Autumn. Right before we left, the weather was beautiful (when it wasn't raining), so we took several walks around the city.
We took lots of pictures on these jaunts, so I thought I'd share them with you before the onslaught of sightseeing, student orientation pictures.
This is a memorial statue in the Place de la République that depicts a woman (Strasbourg) holding two dead young men (representing Germany and France). As you may know, Strasbourg and the region has changed hands many times and has found itself to be sometimes German and sometimes French. This statue shows beautifully the hybridity of the region.

Here is a picture of one of the many churches found around the city. Sophie and I actually had a picnic lunch on the steps of this one one day while waiting for Ian.

A nice view of the river:

A strange doll sitting in a windowsill:

Some views around the cathedral:

Sophie riding the carousel once again. This time the giraffe was the lucky pick.

And I realize that I've never posted a picture of the carousel itself. If you look closely, you can see the small second tier of small horses.

Hopefully in the next few days, I'll be able to post pictures from our recent travels. Be patient, as I have over 400 pictures to sift through!
